gnome3

Before trying it myself, I would like to know if the gnome-desktop is fully available?
BLFS no longer has a full gnome desktop for systems without systemd. Gentoo (and Funtoo) uses overlays to provide a tweaked gnome-setup. At the moment I am using debian 8 (with systemd) oon my laptop. Since switching to a newer low-power 11inch touchscreen laptop and trying different desktops, gnome3 was the best experience.
I also tried fedora 23 and 24 but that just feels wrong. Arch linux is NOT stable.
I really like LFS/NuTyx, until now debian does not feel outdated, I am using debian-stable.

Hello mhe,

Gnome3 is working on NuTyX 8.1.
Pierre and I are maintaining it and thus will be also available on the next 8.2. Means you will still have the choice between:

- lxde
- xfce4
- mate
- gnome 3
- kde5

And many others simple windows manager:

- twm
- openbox
- icewm
- flwm
- fluxbox
- blackbox
- ratpoison

So, I installed nutyx again (8.2) and added gnome3.
Things I discovered:
Installing was easy, I did:
cards sync
cards install gnome-desktop gnome gnome-extra gdm
card install kernel-lts
Then tried to reboot and failed, edited grub.cfg it used uuids that were wrong so I changed it to /dev/sdXY.
GDM did not start so I edited inittab to point to gdm instead of lxdm, no lucj so I installed lxdm instead, works!
My wireless card is not recognized, wired is. What do I need to modify or add?

We can not make gdm working as a login manager because of systemd. You did it right, via lxdm.
For your wireless:

Few things to check:

- dmesg and see if any error are shown
- what's your hardware.  May be an lspci could help you

I am gonna test some things first, it's great to see that NuTyX has gnome3. I hope I have enough time in the weekend to configure my box :).

Hi guys,

I was looking into whats missing to get gdm working on linux without systemd. It seems that elogind adds missing stuff.
Pam and elogind (perhaps also consolekit) with the correct config should work. I was unable to get it working on slackware-14.2 at least, I will try on NutyX.
Could elogind be added?

Few questions from my side:

Is the URL correct ? https://github.com/wingo/elogind ?
Is the project still active ( more the one year without commit ) ?
Is it worth to do it, I means what's wrong to use lxdm to login to gnome ?

Regards,
Thierry

Elogind is the logind stuff that was included since systemd-219. Ubuntu 14.04 has a package systemd-services that provides this and some other stuff.
I discovered it when I was trying to get gdm to work on slackware.
There is a guy who managed to make gdm work on https://github.com/w41l/gnome/tree/wlsgnome-3.18
For KDE elogind does stuff too:
http://bear.alienbase.nl/mirrors/alien-kde/source/testing/deps/elogind/

But yes, lxdm works so nothing urgent.
